Veterans at Keene State College noon to 1:15pm, Mountain View Room Facilitated by: Kent Drake-Deese, Director of Residential Life and Housing and Michael Ward, Administrative Assistant for the Student Center This dialogue will be done in recognition and honor of Veterans Day. Light Lunch will be provided.
Monday, November 16 Malcolm Gladwell describes tipping points as "the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable". He defines a tipping point as "the moment of critical mass, the threshold, and the boiling point." During this dialogue, we will define diversity and multiculturalism, how Keene State College will look as a result of having a more diverse community with multiple cultures represented and the impact of having a "critical mass" of people who are currently underrepresented on campus.
Tuesday, November 17 Please join us to help create a group which would provide social opportunities for diverse families; to share information and expertise; to inform, educate and dispel misinformation; and to celebrate our life choice, affirm its strengths and provide support for dealing with its unique challenges. We need your input and perspective to help this group be what you need it to be. This group welcomes any diverse family configuration: adoptive families, multi-racial families, GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) parents/guardians, grandparents who play a parenting role, any under-represented ethnicity, and more... (help us to expand this list). This planning group meeting is extended to members of the KSC Campus Community. As the group takes shape, we will reach out to the wider community.
Wednesday, November 18 What is transgenderism? What is gender identity? Are sexual orientation and gender identity related? How does transphobia hurt us all? How does transphobia at Keene State create a negative and unwelcoming climate for all of our students? If you are wondering about any of these questions, then come to our dialogue and share thoughts, concerns, theories and stories.
Thursday, November 19 Facilitated by: Jane Warner, Director of the Office of Disability Services (ODS) and other ODS staff members This dialogue will address topics such as how assistive technology is used to access printed materials, how a Braille note works and ways individuals learn to navigate the campus. There will also be a discussion about growth and trends in the area of Disability Services.
Wednesday, December 2 Facilitated by Luz Elena Morey, Founder, Mahalo Art Center in Brattleboro, VT. Luz Elena is a Columbian-born artist, teacher, workshop leader, performer and supporter of wellness. Luz Elena Morey will use elements of Augusto Boal's "theatre of the oppression" to help guide a discussion about the diversity of winter celebrations. This dialogue will allow participants to "get real" about their feelings and develop creative ways to diversify the scope of celebrations during this time of year on campus.
Tuesday, December 8 Feminism-the word and, by extension, the movement-has suffered from an image problem. Women of all ages, colors, and socio-economic classes have both embraced it and disdained it. Why is this? What does it mean to be a feminist in the U.S.? What can we do to re-invigorate this F-word and charge it with new meaning?
Wednesday, December 9 During this dialogue, we will discuss microaggressions and the impact on individuals within a community.
To request accommodations for a disability, please contact the event coordinator at least two weeks prior to the event. |
