One of Keene State College's core values is "community service." KSC students, faculty and staff members are engaged in numerous service projects throughout the year. Last year, KSC students volunteered about 22,000 hours in different organizations in the Monadnock region. Many students build practical experience through service learning into their degrees. The College also works with public and nonprofit agencies to provide educational and social services to Monadnock region community members. Some of these services are listed below: Communicorps Helps Local Organizations Design New Facilities According to Peter Temple, associate professor of technology, design, and safety, the course, known as "Communicorps," emphasizes a team approach to solving real-life architectural problems. This year, three students teams worked on plans for a shelter for homeless seniors in Swanzey, a fire station for Spofford, and a community center, also for Spofford. (more...) Dr. Seuss Day at KSC The idea for the celebration and party came from the student coordinators of Keene State's "KSC Reads" program, which is part of the America Reads Initiative. Each week during the academic year, about 35 KSC students help children, aged preschool though third grade, in 12 area schools with reading. |
