Five KSC alums and colleagues—Colleen Carroll ’13, Kelly (Rogers) Callanan ’02, Michael Beaulac ’05, Maura Vaccari ’02, and Katie Foyle ’13—were back on campus recently to attend the 2015 New Hampshire Educators’ Summer Summit, presented by the NH Department of Education, the Southwest Center, and Keene State. This was the fourth year Keene State hosted the gathering, and more than 500 educators and administrators participated, so obviously, many of the participants were KSC alums, but these five have the distinction of teaching at at Parker Varney Elementary School in Manchester, the 2015 NH School of Excellence.

Since its inception in 1909, Keene State has prepared graduates to go on to rewarding, effective careers and have a profound impact on education. “Keene prepared us all with the strong foundations of what good teaching looks like and sounds like,” said Kelly Callanan. “Through the rigor of the KSC teaching program, we all were able to bring our individual strengths to the table and make Parker-Varney the very best. Our Parker-Varney community is truly like no other. We are so supportive to each other, take risks on a daily basis and make sure kids have a personalized learning experience. Please take a look at the school website and click on our recent national publication to see how we are transforming education. It has been an amazing journey and we continue to work towards transforming education.”

And Keene State is proud to support its education grads and other teachers throughout the state by hosting such professional-development opportunities as the Educator’s Summer Summit. “The educator summit at Keene State College was an inspiring and powerful meeting of New Hampshire’s talented administrators and teachers. The young people in our state benefit greatly from the expertise and ideas that are shared each summer during this important meeting,” said New Hampshire Department of Education Commissioner Virginia Barry. “Educators left this fourth annual summit with new ideas and innovative approaches to apply in the classroom. I am looking forward to following the progress that will come forward as a result of the collaborations that were formed during the summit.”
