Owls Win 15th Straight LEC Trophy

For the 15th-consecutive year, Keene State College has earned the Little East Conference Commissioner’s Cup, the league’s top honor for overall institutional performance in the field of play. The Owls accumulated a point average of 6.3824 in 2014-15 to remain the only institution in the Cup’s history to own the award. KSC teams secured five LEC regular season titles this past year.

“Congratulations to the Keene State administration, coaches and student-athletes on another outstanding year,” said Little East Commissioner Cora H. Brumley. “The Owls continue to be a shining example of the NCAA Division III philosophy by excelling both on and off the field of play. The Little East Conference has yet again proved itself to be a nationally competitive league during the 2014-15 academic year.”

The Commissioner’s Cup measures the overall performance of the league’s eight primary institutions in the LEC’s 19 sponsored sports. For sports in which the conference conducts in-season play (baseball, basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball), point totals are determined by the order of finish in the final regular season standings. For sports that do not conduct in-season play (cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and swimming and diving), points are awarded based on the order of finish in the conference championship meet.

Keene State began the year on a strong note, again claiming both the men’s and women’s cross country titles on November 1. The titles marked the third-straight for the men’s program and 15th-straight for the women. Additionally, the Owls clinched both the regular season and tournament titles in field hockey, posting an unblemished 11-0 record in conference play. In 2014, KSC’s fall programs placed no lower than tied for second in LEC regular season standings to amass 42.5 total points on the season.

During the winter season, the Owls earned their ninth-straight women’s swimming and diving championship, totaling 668.5 points to set a new LEC meet record. Both the men’s and women’s indoor track and field squads performed strongly at the New England Alliance Indoor Championship on February 14, with each team placing second in LEC scoring. In the spring, KSC’s men’s lacrosse team registered a 7-0 conference slate to win the regular season title and eventually the tournament crown.
