Steve Fortier ’86 Sprague Drenan Award Recipient

In keeping with tradition, the KSC Alumni Association will recognize the Sprague Drenan Award recipient during Reunion on June 6th. The award has been presented each year from 1968 and is given to one whose participation in, and support of, alumni activities is noteworthy. Like last year’s recipient, Winnie Langtry ’52, Steve Fortier ’86 wears his KSC heart on his sleeve and is a tireless advocate for support of the students, the college, and our alumni membership.

For many, many years, Steve has set a fast pace for himself and others when it comes to identifying opportunities, getting active in a project or event, and moving initiatives ahead. A standout KSC cross country runner and member of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, Steve is mindful of his leadership and acts as a guide that others might step forward in his path and commit their time, talent, and treasure to supporting their alma mater. Nominators and the selection committee members cited his enthusiastic participation and support of such student and alumni events as the Legacy Scavenger Hunt, Senior Dinner and Dessert, homecomings/game days, and regional gatherings, both on and off campus, as well as his commitment as a KSC Advocate for legislative support. Steve, together with his wife Sue (also a Sprague Drenan recipient and former Alumni Board member), regularly demonstrate their connection to Keene State College in ways large and small. In addition to his alumni efforts, Steve has served for many years on the KSC Parents Association Board, including as president in 2014–15. He is the Executive Director of the Meeting Waters YMCA.
