The future is an inspiring landscape for Courtney Lachaussie ’14, a recent graduate from the BFA Studio program. When she was a senior, she was awarded the Thorne Gallery/Art Department’s Student Fellowship, which paid her to work in the Thorne Gallery, and that experience opened the doors for her current internship at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center. (She was also offered a gallery internship in Boston but was unable to accept it.) “I’m learning arts administration, including daily office tasks and event management, installation of exhibits, marketing and sales, and communicating with artists,” Lachaussie explained.

Lachaussie also has two paintings accepted in a juried exhibition, “Land & Light & Water & Air,” at the Bryan Memorial Gallery in Jeffersonville, Vermont. Based on the artist statement she wrote for her BFA exhibit, she was invited to sit on a panel of artists at the gallery. Her works in the exhibit are from her city landscape painting series, which she began under Professor John Roberts. A gallery patron has commissioned her to paint another large landscape.

“The BFA program at Keene State prepared me well for being a working artist, because it was a year of independent work aside from other academic classes, I was able to transition well into continuing to produce art on my own without guidance after my undergrad,” Lachaussie said. “My professors encouraged that, and having success has definitely motivated me. Also, having the experience at the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery as a fellowship recipient has opened up more opportunities for me today to explore what else art has to offer me. The number one thing I learned during school was to keep exploring, working, painting, and to stay involved.”
