Festival of Extended Musical Techniques

Redfern Arts Center - Alumni Recital Hall
Wednesday, · -
Amy Williams performs during the Extended Musical Techniques Festival.

A special solo piano recital by Dr. Amy Williams (University of Pittsburgh) of music for prepared piano by John Cage. Dr. Williams is a champion of modern and contemporary music, and a leading expert on the piano music of Cage, one of the twentieth century’s visionary pioneers in the field of music composition. For this recital, Dr. Williams will ‘prepare’ the piano by affixing various objects directly to the piano strings, which transforms the piano into sounding like an orchestra of percussion instrument. Dr. William’s 2 PM afternoon recital is part of the Music Department’s “Festival of Extended Musical Techniques” featuring modern and contemporary music that incorporates experimental methods of performing music. Dr. Williams’s recital is free and open to the entire campus community and general public.

This event is part of the RAC Music Department calendar and is open to the public.
