Concert Band
The concert “Flugelhorns, Flamenco, and Fanfares: Music for Guitars and Wind Band” will be presented by the Keene State College Concert Band and Guitar Orchestra in the Redfern Arts Center on Thursday April 7, 2016 at 7:30 PM in the Main Theatre. This concert will feature performances by these fine ensembles and the New England premiere of Chamber Concerto for Guitar Quartet, Winds, and Percussion by Kenneth Johnson. This 10-minute work for guitar ensemble and groups of wind and percussion instruments is in a Neo-Baroque style. It is also very contemporary using percussive effects for the guitars. It can be thought of as "Baroque through the looking glass" as it clearly emulates the energy and motoric rhythms of the 18th century in a 21st-century setting.
The concert also features Steven Reincke’s Fate of the Gods, conducted by Devon Larrabee ’16, Percy Grainger’s Irish Tune from County Derry, directed by Hannah Benoit, ’17 and David Shaffer’s Arabesque, led by Danielle St. Amand. Tickets are $5/$10.Tickets and information are available at the Redfern Arts Center box office, 603-358-2168, or online at www.keene.edu/racbp.
