Marzano's Essentials for Achieving Rigor

Rhodes Hall - S163
Friday, · -

The Essentials for Achieving Rigor model is an instructional framework that assists teachers with making the instructional shifts needed for the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the new state assessment, Smarter Balanced. The model shows teachers how to add rigor to their instruction to ensure all students move up the taxonomy to reach higher order thinking skills.

This session will include:

  • Review of the National Teaching Profile research that helped create the Marzano Essentials for Achieving Rigor model.
  • Show how the model assists teachers in making the needed instructional shifts to prepare students for the new assessments and CCSS.
  • Examples of how teachers would use one of the Essential Marzano Strategies - Examining Similarities & Differences - in the classroom.
  • Demonstration of tools teachers can use for self-reflection, peer coaching, and student feedback to strengthen their practice.

Presenter: Stacy Penna, Ed.D. Director of District Partnerships with Learning Sciences Marzano Center.
