Preserving Batek Culture: Orang Asli Archive Lecture

Mason Library - 2nd Floor, West Wing Open Classroom
Thursday, · -

Thomas Craft and Vivek Venkataraman, as part of their graduate work at Dartmouth College, have been documenting the culture of the Batek, one of the 20 groups that comprise the Orang Asli -- the indigenous peoples of Peninsular Malaysia. Craft and Venkataraman will discuss how their work is contributing to the preservation of the Batek’s culture and way-of-life. Light refreshments will be served following the lecture.

Craft and Venkataraman are Ph.D. students in the Department of Anthropology at Dartmouth College. Both were featured presenters at the recent Orang Asli Symposium held at Mason Library in June of 2014.

This lecture is being sponsored by the Orang Asli Archive, Mason Library, the Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice Studies, Diversity and Multiculturalism Office, and the Office of Multicultural Student Support.

Mason Library is the home of the Orang Asli Archive, a research collection dedicated to documenting, preserving, and disseminating the history and culture of the Orang Asli.
