Welcome to the 2010 NECQL Annual Meeting

  • 9:30am: Welcome by Dr. Emile Netzhammer, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • 10:00am: The Bates-Bowdoin Collaboration QUR Across the Curriculum
    Presenters:
    Matt Coté, Associate Dean of the Faculty, Bates College
    Eric Gaze, Director of the QR Program, Bowdoin College

    The first portion of this presentation will consist of an overview of the project; a description of the collaboration between Bates and Bowdoin Colleges, both during the proposal writing stage and in the first year of the project; and an outline of the goals and expected outcomes of the project. The focus will then turn to the assessment components of the project, and include the presentation of preliminary data from quantitative skills testing and surveys. The content of recent discussions of the use of quantitative reasoning as a tool for teaching reasoning more broadly will also be conveyed. Question and answer sessions will be interspersed throughout the presentation, which will culminate in a workshop during which participants consider sample QR questions, create their own, and discuss their results.

    Edward Pokras, Adjunct Faculty of Geology

    The panel presenters will share the journey Keene State College has taken with regards to creating and assessing a Quantitative Literacy course for first year students as an integral part of our new general education program called the Integrative Studies Program (ISP).
