Circulation

In Brief
KSC students may borrow books for a period of six weeks. Faculty may borrow books for a period of one year from the date that they are checked out. Keene Public library patrons and all other patrons may borrow books for a period of four weeks. Videos, music CDs, and DVDs circulate for 7 days. Most items may be renewed once. Items are subject to recall after two weeks if another library patron makes such a request. For most items there is a grace period.

Access
Mason Library is open to any individual who wishes to use materials inside the library building.
Almost all materials are available on open shelves for self- retrieval.
Selected materials are kept in protective storage and may not be available to all library users (special collections), or may be available for limited use (reserve items).


Non-Circulating Materials
Reference materials
Periodicals (magazines, journals, newspapers)
Children's Literature Festival materials
Special Collections (Preston Room) and Orang Asli Archives


Renewals
KSC students may renew items for an additional six weeks if there are no holds or recalls. Patrons who have a four-week loan period may renew their materials for an additional four weeks if there are no holds or recalls.


Exceptions
Course Reserve Materials -- Specific to each item (1 hr., 3 hrs., 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 6 weeks), no renewals.
End of semester -- materials borrowed by KSC students are due on the last day of classes.
Laptop computers -- restricted to library use only for a 3-hour loan period. No renewals.
Library Reserve -- Restricted to library use only; no renewals.
Videos, CDs and DVDs-- 7 day renewal.


Overdue Materials
Patrons are expected to return materials by the due date.
Overdue fines are 25 cents a day for most materials. Fines start to accrue from the original due date when the grace period has expired.
Items on Reserve carry a $1.00 per day fine, unless they are on 1 or 3-hour reserve, those materials carry a $1.00 per hour fine. Maximum overdue fine for a Reserve item is $20.00.
The grace period for books is 7 days. The grace period for CDs, Videos and DVDs is 2 days. Once the grace period is over fines will be accrued from the original due date.


Recalls
If an item you have borrowed is recalled by the Library it must be returned by the date specified on the recall notice. A fine of $1.00 per day accrues until the item is returned.
Items are subject to recall after two weeks.


Responsibility
Patrons are responsible for the due dates. Mason Library sends overdue notices as a courtesy only.
Individuals assume responsibility for all materials checked out on his/her card, including liability for loss, theft, or damages. Fees, fines, and replacement costs will be billed to the student's or department's account.


Suspension of Privileges
Patrons who have accumulated charges of $ 20.00 or more will have borrowing privileges suspended.
Borrowing privileges are reinstated when charges are reduced below $20.00.



CURRICULUM MATERIALS LIBRARY

Access to CML Materials
The
Curriculum Materials Library is open to any individual who wishes to use materials inside the library building. Almost all materials are available on open shelves for self- retrieval.

    Who May Borrow CML Materials
  • All patrons who are eligible to borrow Mason Library Materials [see Mason policies]
    • Loan period -- 6 weeks for KSC students, KSC faculty/adjuncts
    • Limit on number of items -- no limits
    • Loan period -- 4 weeks for KPL patrons and all other patron types

same as for Mason Library materials


Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies

Access to CCHS
The
Cohen Center for Holocaust Studies is open specific hours.

Who May Borrow CCHS Materials
Loan Period -- 4 weeks for KSC students/faculty/staff
