"The Frances R. Gianno Orang Asli Archive Travel Endowment" The travel endowment provides recognition and financial assistance to individuals traveling to Keene State College for the purpose of using the Orang Asli Archive. Since the archive exists at such a distance from Malaysia, and is not easily visited, this endowment is being established to encourage use of the archive's collections by Orang Asli and other Malaysians, as well as researchers residing in distant locations. Persons doing research on Orang Asli peoples and cultures are eligible for this award. Research dedicated to Orang Asli history and anthropology or to assist Orang Asli in legal issues is preferred. Preference shall be given to the following applicants in the order provided: (1) Orang Asli (2) other Malaysians, (3) other researchers from anywhere else. Applicants must submit a proposal, including a travel budget, along with two letters of reference that validate the significance of their research to Orang Asli and the body of knowledge associated with them. The applicant must also be willing to offer a talk or participate in a relevant event on campus that would represent the importance of Orang Asli cultures and archival research on them. Award amounts will vary based on available funds, but will typically be a minimum of $500 per year. The first call for proposals will be in the fall of 2008. Please check back for the dates and submission information.
