Biographical Sketch:
Ethel L. Heins was born in New York City and worked as a librarian for many years; at the New York Public Library from 1938-1943; at the Boston Public Library from 1955-1962 and in the Lexington Public schools between 1962-1974. She was editor of Horn Book Magazine from 1974-1984, co-founder and board member of Children's Literature of New England from 1968-1971 and adjunct professor at the Center for the Study of Children's Literature, Simmons College, MA.

Scope and Content Note:
The collection consists of a draft, a computer printout and first galley for "The Quartet". This story is one of twelve fables included in her book The Cat and the Cook and Other Fables of Krylov, published in 1995. Ethel Heins was a speaker at the Keene State College Children's Literature Festival.
