Biographical sketch:
John Bierhorst is the author of folktale collections for both younger audiences and adults. He has written on Native American folklore, folk music and mythology and is a recognized expert in the Aztec language and literature.

Scope and Content Note:
The papers document the author’s work on The Monkey’s Haircut and Other Stories Told by the Maya. The collection consists of a handwritten manuscript for this work (Series 1, folder 1). The outgoing correspondence is a letter of gift from John Bierhorst to David White (Series 1, folder 2). John Bierhorst was a speaker at the Children’s Literature Festival at Keene State College.
