Orang Asli Archive: Information

The development of the archive was made possible through the efforts of Rosemary Gianno, Professor of Sociology/Anthropology at Keene State College and by A. Baer, adjunct professor at Oregon State University. The Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, Inc. provided a generous grant. In addition, an endowment fund, the Orang Asli Archive Endowment, has been established to support the work of the archive (to support the endowment, see below).

The Orang Asli Archive, a part of the Keene State College Special Collections, is a repository for materials from anthropological, historical, journalistic and other documentary sources relevant to the Orang Asli, the indigenous peoples of Peninsular Malaysia. These largely unpublished materials include scholarly research, government documents, journalistic accounts, reports, field notes, correspondence, theses and academic studies from scholars in the field of Orang Asli research. Maps, photographs, slides, videotapes and audiotapes are also collected. Published materials concerning the Orang Asli are included in the archive to facilitate research on premises. Our sharing relationship with the Center for Orang Asli Concerns entails providing to each other copies of important documents whenever possible.
