IN MEMORIAM: Blanche R. Wentworth '30 passed away in August 2002, in Hiawassee, Ga., at the age of 91. She had taught school in Union, Middleton, and Sanbornville, N.H., before she retired.
Isabel Call Johnson received a Christmas visit from Norma Wright Walker '51 just at the moment she was enjoying "The Night Before Christmas" being read by a volunteer to a group of seniors.
Charlotte Davison Hamm thinks they had an unusual winter with all the snow, wind, and cold weather that hit Utica, N.Y. During the winter, she fell and broke a rib but was glad it wasnt more serious.
IN MEMORIAM: Robert D. Bailey '32 died March 12, 2003, in Boscawen, N.H. He earned a master's degree at Harvard University and became a teacher and principal of high schools in Dover, Hillsborough, and Goffstown, N.H. Following his career in education, he was a developer and businessman in Concord and York, Maine.
Many thanks to Frances Shaughnessy and Margaret Newman Chickering for writing wonderful letters to their classmates encouraging them to return to the KSC campus for their 70th Reunion. Marty Heffernan, the former class president, also wrote one just before he died.
IN MEMORIAM: Florence Child Bingham '33 died Feb. 19, 2003, in Charlestown, N.H., at age 92. She earned a master's degree in library science at UNH and was a home economics teacher and school librarian in Charlestown. In addition, she was librarian at Silsby Free Public Library for 30 years.
Alberta "B" Patch Slegaitis leads a busy life in Durham, N.C. Her days start at 6 a.m. to take her Border collie Duke for a walk. B writes the newsletter for the residents, including the available activities, jokes, puzzles, and other information. Often she conducts exercise classes, plays canasta, and is secretary for the Residents Committee. Frequently, she has dinner with her son Charles and his family. B's granddaughter received a fellowship and is teaching is Edinburgh. She loves Scotland and enjoys her teaching.
IN MEMORIAM: Walter Moore '35 died Jan. 16, 2003, in Bradenton, Fla., at age 89. He was a resident of Dalton, N.H., and wintered in Florida with his wife. He was manager for the New England Telephone Company for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He was also the recipient of a New Hampshire Tree Farmer of the Year Award.
Josephine Penney of Melrose, Mass., reports that her youngest granddaughter completed a three-month yoga program in Thailand.
IN MEMORIAM: Arline Lund Gerbrands '37 passed away March 3, 2003, in Sarasota, Fla., at age 85. She earned a master's degree at Boston University and did doctoral work at the University of Florida. She taught in Westmoreland and Keene.
Luther Preston had a busy year, not only with an activity at the N.H. Farm and Forest Exposition in Manchester in February, but also at his parish house in Greenland, N.H. He worked with children and adults cutting wood "cookies" from different types of wood to show the growth of trees through the years.
