IN MEMORIAM: Anna Benson Crooker '25 died May 14, 2006, in Wilton, Conn. She earned a master's degree and taught elementary school until the mandatory retirement age of 75. She entered the Senior Olympics at age 74 and earned three gold medals for swimming at age 80. 1926 IN MEMORIAM: Mildred Curtis Byrne '26 died Apr. 2, 2006, in Milton, Mass. She played center field on the Keene Normal School baseball team and was a teacher in New Hampshire before working at resorts in Massachusetts and Vermont. She worked for 25 years in the dietary department at Friel Nursing Home in Quincy, Mass. 1927 Margaret Grover Colburn invited Norma Wright Walker '51 for lunch at her home in Weare, N.H. Not only did they share a delicious lunch, but also several hours of conversation about Keene State College and their families. Margaret's first teaching job was in a small rural school in Deering, N.H. She taught for a short period, but she decided to get married, and you couldn't teach if you were married. Margaret said she helped her new husband raise chickens. Later they built 20 cabins on Lake Horace. These cottages are now cared for by her grandson. Nellie Saladino celebrated her 100th birthday Oct. 26 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, Vt., where she resides with her sister, Ethel Anderson. IN MEMORIAM: Pearl Hale Pearson '27 died in November 2006 in Torrington, Conn. After graduating from Keene State, Pearson took a teaching job for a few years. She loved being a mother and grandmother, and her children raved about her talent in the kitchen. 1929 Viola Davis Horton is sad that Mike Maher '72 has retired as alumni director. She has been traveling between Panama City and her home in Crescent City, Fla. She wrote that it was very hot in Florida, and she is looking forward to the winter months.
