Class Notes 2001

P. Kierstead Hamilton married Brian Grondin on June 28, 2003, in Bedford. Keene State graduates who attended the wedding were Amanda Capen, Christine Leland, Damien Rudzinski '00, Sara Wheat Tyler '00, Kim Dalenta '03, Jess Hassin '03, and Brian Winsor '02. Kierstead teaches at RSEC in Amherst, and the couple lives in Manchester.

From Jenn Shurkus: "I've moved to 284 Megan Road, Hyannis, MA 02601. I'm the creative manager of a scrapbook and stamping store and I'm doing freelance design on the side." Her e-mail address is jenn@shurkus.com.

Elizabeth Hornsberger and Paul Silverfarb '99 were married on April 26, 2003, in Trumbull, Conn. Paul Lakevicius was the best man, and Anthony Vogl '99 was a groomsman. Other alumni attending were Nicole Goddu Vogl, Peter Lambert, Adam Benedict '99, Mike Verrico '97, Kerri Knight Cormier '02, and Karen Price '97. Beth is a second-grade teacher at Redding Elementary School in Redding, Conn., and Paul is the sports editor of the Norwalk (Conn.) Citizen-News. They honeymooned at Disney World and currently live in Fairfield, Conn.

Navy seaman Jeremy E. Mish completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. His training included naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.


2002

Katrina (Katie) Armstrong passed away in North Conway on Dec. 14, 2001, after a long battle with cancer. She majored in graphic arts and minored in dance. Her extracurricular activities centered around the dance program, and she performed several times at the Redfern Arts Center. The Katie Armstrong Dance Scholarship and Education Fund was created to honor Katie's love of dance. This fund is available to residents of the Mount Washington Valley for assistance in continuing their study in the field of dance, to bring educational opportunities to aspiring dancers, and to develop an appreciation of dance in prospective audiences. Katie is the daughter of Doug '71 and Candy Peters Armstrong '71.

Lara Elizabeth Scott is in the graduate program in student affairs and higher education at the University of Vermont.

Jennifer Gawron and Joshua English '01 were married on Jan. 15, 2003, in Walpole. Amy Gawron '04 was matron of honor. Jen works in public relations for Church & Main Inc., in Keene, Joshua is a sheriff's deputy for the Cheshire County Sheriff's Department and a U.S. Marine reservist. They are planning an April wedding trip after the groom returns home from his tour of duty with his Marine unit.

Andrea Guay married Michael Gordon on Aug. 2, 2003, in Enfield. The couple lives in Greenland, N.H., where Andrea is employed by Greenland Central School. Her husband completed his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Dartmouth College in July. Attending the wedding from KSC were Marilyn Johnson '71, David Johnson '70, Keoki Johnson '97, Francine Lozeau '71, Adam Tourville '05, Melissa Allen, Roger Guay '05, and Peter Guay '70, father of the bride.

IN MEMORIAM: Katrina (Katie) Armstrong '02 passed away in North Conway on Dec. 14, 2001.


2003

Sara Kotler made an important connection while on phonathon duty last year. She talked to Eleanor Mason '49, who lives in the Salem, Ore., area. When Sara headed out there to complete her nutrition certification, she connected again with Eleanor and a wonderful friendship grew.
