Helen Kimball Houston sent a long, newsy letter. She writes that all is well except for failing eyes and bones that keep her from moving around as much as she would like to. Helen still goes to church and to the Merrimack County Home Auxiliary functions. Last summer she had a trip to the Mountain View Grand Hotel in Whitefield, N.H., where she had worked for two summers back in the 1920s. Helen's grandson was married Dec. 28 on top of Cannon Mountain, and she was planning to attend if they could keep her warm.

When Cassie Haven Sweet looked at the snow out of her window this winter, she remembered skiing in Claremont when in high school. All the students would be let out of school to help dig out the train that was often stuck outside Sunapee as it traveled up from Concord. Cassie's friend Helen Bronson Preble lives in Millerton, Pa. They grew up in Claremont and graduated from Keene Normal School together. They are still very close friends and keep in contact frequently.

IN MEMORIAM: Christine A. Somerville '25 passed away March 21, 2003, in Nashua, N.H., at age 99. She was an elementary school teacher in Nashua until her retirement in 1969.

Mildred Curtis Byrne sent a copy of her Keene Normal School dormitory fee of $45. She also included photos of a 1925 field day being held on Fiske Lawn, as well as one of her taken in 1924 and another of five classmates. All of these items will be found in the Alumni Archives. Thank you, Mildred.

Rosetta Brown Lowe spent the holidays with her two sons. She is fortunate to have them living close by. This winter, Rosetta enjoyed watching the snowmobilers who stop at the restaurant across the highway from where she lives. But she really looked forward to spring and a chance to go outside.

Elizabeth Harrison Thomas joined 96 retired teachers and guests at the Christmas luncheon meeting held at the Best Western Hotel in Keene. Always nice to see you, Betty.

IN MEMORIAM: Marion Eldrith Hayes '27 passed away 12, 2003, at age 95. She was living in Merrimack, N.H. Marion was an elementary school teacher from 1927 to 1972, teaching in Weare, Goffstown, New Boston, Farmington, and Dunbarton, N.H.

Alice L. Porter '27 died February 28, 2003, in Keene at age 97. She taught in Claremont, N.H., for more than 40 years, retiring in 1971.

Elizabeth Welch entertained Norma Wright Walker '51 and her husband Edwin. Elizabeth enjoyed the bread and other goodies they brought to her.

Evelyn Warren Bailey was ready for spring to arrive after being stuck inside due to all the snow, wind, and cold weather. During the winter months she tries to keep busy with needlepoint and crocheting, but she would rather be outside working in her garden.
