Class Notes In Memoriam

Anna Kandilis Newton '32 passed away Feb. 24, 2005, in Manchester, N.H. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Pembroke and in Henniker, N.H., as well as Albany, N.Y.

Marjorie Armstrong '35 died Feb. 7, 2005, in Vero Beach, Fla. She was a teacher for many years.

Stanley A. Johnson '38 died March 1, 2005, in Keene. He served in the U.S. Navy and was plant superintendent of A.E. Martel Co., Inc., a printing company in Keene. He was a member of the KSC alumni board and president of the Alumni Association in 1959.

Dot Ryans Somero '38 passed away May 11, 2005, in New Ipswich, N.H. She taught for more than 30 years in New Ipswich and Peterborough elementary schools. Among her survivors is her sister Barbara Ryans Brackett '57.

Elsie McConnell Underwood '38 passed away March 24, 2005.

Dorothy Taaffe Kazanas '45 died Jan. 28, 2005, in Keene. She taught in Gilsum, Weathersfield, and Keene for a total of 38 years.

Robert H. Turner '50 died March 15, 2005, in Laconia, N.H. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and taught at Concord High School and N.H. Technical Institute in Manchester. He was president of the N.H. Vocational Technical College at Laconia for 18 years.

Charles P. Ricardi '51 died Feb. 18, 2005, in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He served in the U.S. Navy and earned a master's degree from Worcester State College. He taught in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Florida. He also was a NHIAA basketball referee and coached numerous sports teams.

Neal Slocum '52 of Burlington, Vt., passed away on Aug. 5, 2004.

Russell F. Young Sr. '54 died March 25, 2005 in Peterborough. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He earned his master's degree at KSC and taught industrial arts and woodworking at Conant High School for 30 years.

Kendall McCormack '55 passed away March 30, 2005, in Keene. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from KSC. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. He taught English at Peterborough High School for 30 years and was an adjunct professor at Hesser College from 1989-97.

Robert Holmes Sr. '57 died March 15, 2005, in Keene. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and taught in the Goffstown school district.

Gertrude "Trudy" Pearson '60, M'70 passed away Feb. 27, 2005, in Keene. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was in the Naval Reserve. She taught English at Keene High School for 20 years and was elected to the N.H. House of Representatives.

Ruth M. Wade '70 died Feb. 10, 2005, in Burlington, Vt. She began her career in radio at WKNE in Keene in 1942 with weekday programs until 1970. She earned a degree at KSC in 1970 and spent a year at the Sorbonne in Paris. She taught French for 12 years at Colebrook Academy and was a teacher's aide at Franklin School in Keene for six years.

Susan Jean Marcotte '74 died April 19, 2005, in Berlin, Vt. She earned a master's degree in elementary education at UVM and taught in Williamstown, Vt., for more than 25 years.

Rebecca B. Baute M'81 of Keene died Feb. 25, 2005, in Houston, Texas. A registered dietitian, she worked for 20 years as a nutritionist at Cheshire Hospital in Keene.
