Philanthropy and Academic Excellence

Mel Netzhammer photo by JJ Prior Keene State College is a well-respected institution. The accolades we receive from colleagues across the country wouldn't be possible without the philanthropic support of our alumni, our faculty and staff, our friends and our community. How do gifts impact academic excellence? Some examples:

  • A generous gift from Rick and Jan Cohen established the Cohen Chair in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, which enabled us to attract Dr. James Waller, an internationally renowned scholar. The Cohens' gift helps to ensure that this outstanding academic program reaches the world from its home at Keene State, and that our students have the opportunity to study under the best faculty in their field.
  • In 2007, the Honors Program was established to help the College serve students who seek a highly challenging, integrated education. Your gifts help fund scholarships, required international travel, and other program components to help make the Honors program strong and attract talented and diverse students.
  • Undergraduates elsewhere rarely get to work directly with faculty members on research, yet this is a hallmark of Keene State College. The Office of Sponsored Projects and Research recently announced the Bruce LeVine Mellion '69 Summer Student Research Fellowship, the first such summer grant funded through annual giving. This fellowship of $4,000 will fund one of two college-wide summer academic research positions, giving promising students the ability to focus on their research year-round and allowing for real-world opportunities that reach beyond the walls of the campus.

Every gift that we receive, large or small, supports our number-one priority: academic excellence that leads to student success. The help we get from generous donors like you opens the world to our students.

Our academic programs support learning in classrooms, residence halls, across campus, and in the community. A strong academic program requires the best that our alumni, our community, and our faculty and staff have to offer.

Thanks to you, our students get a transformational education that prepares them to enter a diverse and dynamic world.
