Owl Notebook
A Standout Fall Season for Owls The Keene State field hockey team began its season with a school record six consecutive shutouts. The shutout spree included wins over regional powers Springfield College (3-0) and Williams College (1-0). Two seniors, back Erin Dallas (see story on page 16) and goalie Vikki Stoessel, were key contributors to the streak. Benning and Dallas were named LEC offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively. Owl men and women's soccer teams had their share of huge regular-season wins, but none bigger than double-dose Little East victories over Eastern Connecticut on September 26. The KSC women defeated a then regionally ranked ECSU team 2-1 in overtime, and the Owl men disarmed the Warriors 4-1 on the road. The Keene State cross-country teams appear to be heading down the right trail. The men posted early-season wins at the UMass Dartmouth and KSC invitationals, and the women captured their 10th straight LEC championship. Both teams were ranked in national and regional polls this season. The defending LEC champion Keene State women's volleyball team unveiled retro uniforms this season. Featuring long sleeves and large numbers on the front and back, the uniforms are reminiscent of those worn by Owl teams in the early and mid-'80s. KSC finished fourth in the LEC this season. Unfortunately, home wasn't so sweet for Owl teams playing in the LEC tournaments this fall. Although men and women's soccer and field hockey teams earned coveted top seeds, all three were victims of the upset bug that seemed to be prevalent at Owl Athletic Complex. However, both women's soccer and field hockey teams kept their long string of postseason berths alive by accepting invitations to play in the ECAC New England Tournament.
