Alumni Notebook
News from the KSC Alumni Association With just a few short months under my belt, I can tell that Keene State is a fast-moving place. The Alumni Relations Office phone seems never to cease ringing. Whether it's a member of the class of 2008 looking to get an alumni membership card to use the library or a basketball player from the 1950s hoping to reunite a group of players, the Alumni Office is information central. And in addition to the phones, we also have foot traffic and e-mail. Events and Program Coordinator Kay MacLean and College Ceremony Coordinator Pauline Dionne are constantly scheduling events, taking reservations, and ensuring that a good time will be had by all. I find myself out of the office more than in the office, and that can be fun, too, whether it's on campus meeting with students or at a Golden Circle luncheon. The Alumni Board of Directors has set ambitious goals for the year to increase interactions among alums and between alums and students. To achieve these goals, we need your help. We need you to fill in the details in stories we've heard and tell us new stories of your own. We'd also love it if you would share an hour or two with current KSC students. They contact us weekly looking for information about student clubs past and present, potential career connections, and other ways of tying their college experience to their futures. We, too, want to know what you've done and what you're doing, so that we can help make connections for you with other alumni with similar backgrounds and interest. A current initiative is aimed to better understand how alumni have "gone forth to serve." Can you help us? E-mail or write to us about your own service efforts: Have you served in local government? Civic organizations? Local schools? National organizations? Disaster relief? International service? Religious organizations? We're interested to hear about your participation at any level. Please e-mail me at pfarmer@keene.edu. Service to the community is part of the fabric of a Keene education. It is a core value of the institution. In fact, in 2006-2007, Keene State students engaged in 450,675 hours of community service and earned national recognition on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Your involvement in this project will help students understand that this is not just a motto. It is a way to live. The culmination of this initiative will be a far-reaching Centennial Day of Service in November 2009 by the whole Keene State community: alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Wherever you are, across our nation and the world, or right here in Keene, you will make a difference.
Thank you. It is a pleasure to serve our wonderful alumni.
