Troubleshooting Your Phone
Q: I have no Dial Tone!
1. Have you tried your phone in a neighbor’s known working jack?
- If your answer is Yes, go to #2.
- If your answer is No, try that first.
- If you have tried your phone in a neighbor’s jack and it still doesn’t work, your phone is broken and you will need to get a new one.
2. Are you sure the cord is plugged into the Voice side of the jack and not the Data side? (If you are in Holloway: Are you plugged into the "A" jack, not the "B" jack?)
- If your answer is Yes, call the HelpDesk at 603-358-2532 and they will send a tech.
- If your answer is No, changing to correct side/jack may cure the problem. If not, call the HelpDesk at 603-358-2532 and they will send a tech.
Q: I can’t call long distance!
1. Do you have a Personal Billing Number [PBN]?
- If Yes, go to PBN question.
- If No, call Paetec at 8-6700 to be assigned one.
Q: My PBN doesn’t work!
1. Has it worked recently?
- If yes, go to # 2.
- If no, call Paetec at 8-6700 to check whether your PBN has been disabled.
2. What number are you trying to call?
- Be sure the number you are calling is correct and that you dialed it correctly.
- If the number is okay and you tried dialing it a couple of times and it still doesn't work, call Paetec at 8-6700 to check whether your PBN has been disabled.
Notes:
- **900 numbers are blocked.
- **New areas codes or new exchanges may not have been entered into the telephone switch yet.
- **Some Carribbean countries have also been blocked.
Q: I can’t get into my Voice Mail! Or I forgot my password!
1. Your password will probably need to be reset.
- Call the HelpDesk at 603-358-2532 and they will have the password reset.
Q: I get crosstalk sometimes when I’m talking on the phone!
1. Do you have a cordless phone?
- If Yes, you may be crossing with someone else with a cordless who is on your floor or in your wing. If you feel this is not the case, call the HelpDesk at 603-358-2532 and they will send a tech.
- If No, call the HelpDesk at 603-358-2532 and they will send a tech. If you know with whom you are cross-talking, that will be helpful to the tech.
Q: My phone jack is broken. What do I do?
1. : Make sure your phone works by testing it in another phone jack. If it works and the phone jack is physically borken:
- Call the HelpDesk at 603-358-2532 and they will assign a technicican to repair it.
