IT for Students

Keene State College students use information technology to complete the requirements of their coursework, to access class lectures and syllabi, to carry out research, and to communicate via e-mail. All students are provided with an e-mail account, student portal access to academic and personal services, HelpDesk support, LAN/WAN and internet access, and access to computing facilities.

All residence facilities are wired for Internet connections. Our most recent surveys indicate that approximately 96% of on-campus students have a PC or Mac in their dorm room. In addition to ResLife computing, Keene State College provides over 90 hours per week of open access to public computing labs, with longer access during exam periods.

The IT Group HelpDesk provides technical support and training for Keene State College students, faculty, and staff. We assist students in setting up network access (on and off campus), configuring and using MyKSC and telephone/voicemail services, and providing media service and cable service support. We provide on-site support for specific technical situations and provide some assistance for software and network issues via the telephone.

The IT Group provides a wide variety of computing resources for members of the Keene State College community. Along with technical support provided at the HelpDesk, the IT Group is responsible for the college's computing systems and the network and telecommunications infrastructure. We support the effective use of technology facilities by the campus community and the incorporation of computing and information technology into college activities. The IT Group supports technology-enabled classrooms and public & specialized computing labs on campus. The specialized labs offer technology applications to majors within specific disciplines, and the public lab provides tools such as Microsoft Office, multi-media stations, digital scanners, and CD burners. The public lab is open to all KSC students, faculty, and staff. Each building on the Keene State campus is connected to a fiber network backbone that provides fast Internet access allowing students, faculty and staff the ability to connect quickly and efficiently.

All students pay an educational technology fee per year. This covers the cost of public and specialized lab computers, and staffing for the labs; media enhanced classrooms, staffing for the Instructional Technology Center, student technicians for the HelpDesk; Microsoft Office site license for staff, faculty, classrooms, and computing labs; Blackboard, the web based course management system and for MyKSC, the student Web portal.

Students living on campus pay a separate telecommunications fee (bundled in the cost of Residential Housing fees) per year which covers telephone line, voice mail, cable TV. and LAN/WAN and Internet access.
