Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

1. First, Download Stinger. Save the download to a known area, such as your Desktop.



2. Double-click the downloaded Stinger file, to bring up the following window:





3. Before scanning, set the preferences by clicking the blue Preferences icon. Set your Preferences according to the following window, then click OK:





4. (Note: This step will create a stinger.opt file, that can be deleted once you've finished using Stinger)



5. Back at the initial screen, click Scan Now to execute a scan. Please wait while Stinger scans.
