Students who live in the residence halls and use the in-room network connections there are required to install the Cisco Clean Access agent on their computers as part of the IT Group's efforts to keep the campus computer network virus free. This preview covers a routine CCA installation and computer check. When students are actually on campus and trying to connect to the network they may get error screens not shown here that indicate there is something else wrong with the software installation or updates. Error screens will encourage students to call the HelpDesk at 8-2532 so IT Group staff can help the student work through the problem. Every student should have anti-virus software installed on their computer, and current Microsoft Windows critical updates. To find out more about CCA, visit the FAQ.When students try to start their Internet browsers they will be redirected to the Cisco Clean Access Agent installation page: A window will pop-up in the above screen asking students to accept the security certificate, click YES. If, for some reason a window doesn't pop-up, students should look at the top of their screens to see if there is a notice about blocked pop-ups. Left-click on the notice and select "Always allow pop-ups from this source." ![]() Next is the username and password screen. Students' usernames are the first part of their MyKSC e-mail address. (Example: Bulwer Lytten's MyKSC address is blytten@myksc.mailcruiser.com, so his username is blytten) Students' passwords are the last six digits of their social security numbers. New students should use their date of birth as their default password (ex. mmddyy or 01/06/89). Students are encouraged to change their password after the CCA installation is complete by going to the Password page and clicking on "Change My Net ID" under the KSC Network heading. ![]() Students may also choose to "Install CA Cert" at the bottom of the page. Installing this certificate will simply keep the security warnings from popping up every time their computer tries to access the CCA software during the installation. Follow the instructions that come up on the screen after clicking "Install CA Cert", and RUN the file, don't save it. CCA installation comes next. All on campus students connecting to the campus network through residence hall data jacks have to install the CCA. IMPORTANT: Students who have already installed the CCA software on their computers should follow the directions near the bottom of the installation screen which state: "If you have already downloaded the Clean Access Agent, please close this window and right-click the Clean Access Agent icon in the system tray and choose Login from the menu. Enter your NetID (network user name) and password in the login window." Continue with the preview five screens down to see what CCA will show you next. ![]() Click YES to continue in the window that pops-up on the screen after clicking the "Download Clean Access Agent 3.5.2" The next screen begins the CCA installation. OPEN the file; don't save it to your computer. (The OPEN button may actually say RUN, left-click the button that says either OPEN or RUN to continue with the installation.) Wait while the software is downloaded on to your computer. A status bar will show the download progress. ![]() The first pop-up for the InstallShield Wizard will come up, left-click NEXT to install the CCA. ![]() Keep the Destination Folder suggested by the InstallShield, there is no reason to try and put the CCA software somewhere else. Left-click NEXT ![]() The InstallShield likes to check with you every step of the way, left-click INSTALL to continue. Wait for the CCA to install, a pop-up window will show a progress bar. (It's about as exciting as watching toothpaste dry in the nail holes left by the person who lived in the room before you, but it needs to be done.) ![]() Thankfully, the InstallShield indicates when the installation is complete. Left-click FINISH ![]() Now that CCA is installed on your system it has work to do, and you will need to enter your NetID (user name) and password again. (Remember, the first part of your MyKSC e-mail address and the last six digits of your social security number. New students should use their date of birth as their default password (ex. mmddyy or 01/06/89).) Left-click the Login button. Some students will see a security message pop-up on their screen, left-click YES to proceed with the CCA computer check. ![]() The CCA will now verify that McAfee anti-virus software and Microsoft Windows updates are installed on the computer. Students who have the items will be given complete access to the campus computer network. Students who don't meet the anti-virus and operating system requirements will see a TEMPORARY ACCESS screen. Left-click CONTINUE so the CCA can direct your computer to sites with the necessary software to meet the network requirements. ![]() When the CCA gives the student a pop-up window for required software with the choice "Go To Link" or "Next" the student must choose "Go To Link" if he or she has not installed any of the required software yet. If you try to just go to next you will get a warning that says the software is required to access the network. The "Next" button is for when all of the required software has been installed. ![]() Students will see a required update page if they need McAfee and updated virus definitions, and/or Microsoft Windows updates. You must click "Update" to get the required files. Students may see the required update window a few times depending on how many updates they need. The IT Group encourages students to install all of the updates available to them. In all cases where the student must install software to meet the network requirements there will be a wait while all of the files download. Over the move-in weekend there are approximately 2,500 students trying to access the campus computer network in a very short period of time, and there is bound to be a waiting line for the proper files. The IT Group has worked to supply adequate links to the necessary files, and asks that students understand that the download and install process could take some time. If the file downloads are taking far longer than you think they should, please call the HelpDesk 8-2532 for assistance. Once students have installed all of the required software and updates the Login window should come back up on the screen. Enter your username and password to connect to the network. ![]() This Login screen is the same screen students will see every time they have to log in to the network. Log in triggers the CCA software to verify that McAfee, current virus definitions, and Microsoft Windows updates are installed. If the student needs any of these items the CCA will redirect him or her to the update pages, just like during the initial installation of the CCA. Please be certain that you have a long-term user license for McAfee if you have purchased it on your own. Trial versions of the software usually expire within a few months, and then you will have to reinstall the software. Contact the HelpDesk (8-2532) if you need a copy of the College provided McAfee program; it comes with a perpetual site license so students don't have to worry about the software expiring. Students who have a clean CCA check will see a screen that says Successfully logged into the Network! Success! We all like that. This means that the system has all of the anti-virus software, virus definitions and operating system patches required by the CCA, and the student can access the campus network and the Internet. |
