The IT Group developed the Information Technology Security Program as a guide for building and maintaining a safe, secure, accessible, reliable, sustainable, and effective IT infrastructure to assist the College in its mission. ITG will develop this program through policies and procedures, hardware and software components, user awareness, and education and training. Our goals include maintaining the privacy of network users, confidentiality of sensitive information, and security of the personal information and intellectual property contained within the IT infrastructure.
In an effort to increase security practices, and decrease institutional liability, the USNH System Office has recently approved modifications to the System Access Control Policy (see section 5.7). This policy will increase protection for computers and data resources used in the transaction of USNH and Keene State College business. Given that security is a combination of policies/standards, business practices and technical controls, KSC will rely on all three to ensure our compliancy with the new USNH System Access Policy. It is the responsibility of every KSC employee to comply and practice safe computing practices as outlined by USNH and KSC policies, standards and procedures. For more information on how the new System Access Control Policy changes will affect you, please visit changes resulting from System Access Control Policy. This new policy will become effective May 1.
Faculty and staff share responsibility with the IT Group when it comes to the security of the campus network. Most of us, in some respect, have access to and control over the personal information of students, faculty, and/or staff members. All faculty and staff should have a general knowledge of the College's password policies and the Computer and Network Use Agreement; knowledge of local, state, and federal laws concerning copyright and other digital information based topics; and general knowledge about how to use the Internet and everything it offers in a responsible manner. This knowledge should, when possible, be passed on to students who may not necessarily search out such information on their own.
