Network Services plays an active role in evolving the technology infrastructure and core network to support the campus needs. Lead Network Engineer Gregory Scholz and the Network Services team of technology managers provide architecture and design to the campus-wide technology infrastructure, and deliver services in support of campus initiatives.

There are approximately 5,500 active data connections across campus. The majority of the connections are in the residence halls, where there is one network connection per student in each room. All academic classrooms have at least one active data jack. The college now has over 80 miles of fiber on campus. Over the summer in 2005 we upgraded off-campus bandwidth by 35 Mega-bits per second (Mbps), the campus network has 75 Mbps of I-1 bandwidth for on campus operations and 6 Mbps of I-2 bandwidth for outgoing and incoming Internet traffic. On an average week, the network sends and receives over 75Mb of data traffic.

There are approximately 1,500 cable TV connections on campus, the majority of which are located in the residence halls.

A few years ago a campus task force and outside consultants completed a cost assessment and campus level inventory of the physical infrastructure for the data, telephone and cable network. In 2003 the task force determined that the campus has a technology infrastructure worth over $5 million, which includes fiber and copper data cabling, data and telecommunications switches and equipment, and other network hardware. Network and Telecom services continually reinvests in the upkeep, upgrade and improvements of this infrastructure.
