The IT Group supports public computing labs, specialized computing labs, and admininstrative computing labs. The specialized labs offer technology applications to majors within specific disciplines. The public labs are open to all students currently enrolled in classes at the College. A NetID (username) and password is required to log-in to the computers in the Rhodes Hall Lab and the Mason Library lab. Administrative labs are open to faculty and staff for training and Continuing Education. Together, these computing labs make 642 computers and 34 printers accessible to the Keene State College community. Student computer ownership is not a complete substitute for public access computing facilities. The Rhodes Hall and Mason Library computing spaces are important campus gathering places. They provide opportunities and a place for academic and social interactions. The computing labs also provide access to other important technologies (not always available to student's personally owned computers) such as faster network connectivity, laser printers, digital scanners, technical support, and Microsoft Office suite software. The Rhodes Hall public computing lab is open over 90 hours per week with extended hours during finals week. This public computing lab has 50 personal computers and is used throughout the year by many residential and non-residential students. The specialized labs on campus provide the applications and technology infrastructure that allows students to fully explore their major. Access to, and helpful instruction in, the use of specialized technology employed in a student's major area of study - for example, GIS and CAD applications, or graphic design software - ensures that the College has the technological means to be a dynamic and forward-looking place of learning. As a student it is important to explore what technology is critical to your major, where that technology is located, and during what hours the technology is available. |
