There are approximately 130 teaching spaces where classes are taught at Keene State College. Some of these are laboratories, some are gymnasiums, and approximately 91 of them are traditional classroom spaces. All classrooms have one network data port and one cable port in them. Most (approximately 80%) of the traditional classrooms also have data/video projection, screens, a VHS and/or DVD player. "Media Enhanced" Classrooms Increasingly, classroom instruction is being delivered through these media systems and technology applications. Faculty needs for digital/video/computer projection are being met with the combination of our media-enhanced classrooms and the faculty laptop initiative. Over the past couple of years we have added 70 new media-enhanced classrooms to the campus and we have developed a fiscal plan for long-range sustainability. Through a mixture of college funding - recent one-time funding initiative, R & R projects, student Ed Tech fees, and capital projects (Science Building and Media Arts Building). The podiums in these classrooms provide user-friendly connections to the laptop. The classroom podium platform can support Windows or Mac laptops as well as a permanently installed workstation and/or VHS/DVD player. It also provides an amplifier and speakers for audio presentations. The podium includes network cabling and electrical connections for easy fitting. The HelpDesk will provide hands-on instruction to any/all faculty that request this assistance from us. We also developed documentation to deliver to faculty and/or leave in the classrooms with the equipment. The IT Group HelpDesk also has portable carts with data/video projectors or VHS/DVD players for any/all faculty requiring instructional technologies in classroom spaces that do not have the permanently mounted projection systems. |
