PCs on the KSC Network
PC Necessities: Note - Computers below the recommended requirements may operate within the College's network environment, but the HelpDesk does not offer troubleshooting support for those systems if you encounter problems connecting to the network.
- Processor: Pentium IBM compatibles are recommended because the majority of the campus is PC based
- Operating System: Windows XP, Vista Premium
- Hardware: 400+mhz processor w/CD-ROM Drive, 1GB of memory, and an ethernet card
- Network (data) cable: between 6' and 25' depending on the arrangement of the room (15' should work in most rooms).
- Software: Make sure that you have the installation disks or CDs for your operating system. On-campus students will also need the software drivers for their network interface card (NIC).
- KSC licensed McAfee anti-virus software: Students connecting to the campus network with either a PC or a laptop are required to install the KSC licensed version of McAfee VirusScan anti-virus software. KSC has a campus product license for McAfee and provides the software to all enrolled students.
- Network Registration: All students connecting to the campus network via the in-room residence hall connections are required to register on the network as part of the effort to keep the campus network free of computer viruses and spyware.
- Windows Critical updates: Students connecting to the campus network with a PC that operates Windows software must turn on the automatic update feature in order to download critical security patches.
