Streaming Media The IT Group hosts a streaming media server for delivering live and on-demand video content over the web. The service is available to KSC faculty and staff for academic and administrative content. Live StreamingAcademic events can be streamed live from many locations on campus allowing viewers to watch from a standard web browser. Our current system allows for the capture of both the presenter and their presentation materials simultaneously. An example of such a presentation can be seen here. When the event is finished, the live stream will still be available for users to view on-demand. Written permission must be obtained from the presenter to allow live and on demand streaming of their presentation. Special technical and staffing needs must be considered for live streaming requests. Please notify the IT Group 3 weeks (minimum) ahead of time when making your request. On-Demand StreamingEvents that were streamed live automatically become available to be viewed on demand. Additionally, it is possible to upload existing video files to the streaming server to be viewed on demand. To conserve server space and bandwidth, faculty and staff are encouraged to use free services such as YouTube and Vimeo before requesting to use the IT Group's streaming server. There may be times when a video may be too long for such a service or more local control is desired in which case use of the streaming server may be permitted. Faculty and staff who wish to have a video uploaded to the server should bring their materials to the Help Desk and fill out a Media Production Form. Please indicate on the form that it is a streaming media request as well as the length of the video. Media Services staff will convert the video to the proper format and email you with a link to where the video can be seen on the streaming server when it is ready. Please allow two weeks for upload. No copyrighted material may be stored on the streaming server without expressed written permission from the copyright holder. On-demand material may be removed after 1 year of inactivity. |
