spacer spacer Blackboard Course Deletions

In an effort to maintain a manageable course review list on Blackboard (Bb) older courses will be deleted at the end of each semester so the course review lists will only go back 2 years (4 semesters, including summers) worth of courses. Notifications will go out prior to scheduled course deletions to remind faculty and adjunct professors to save any content they may wish to keep. In addition faculty can request that courses be permanently deleted from the system by filling out the Blackboard Course Deletion Request Form at the bottom of the page.

Faculty and adjunct professors must review their older Bb course material on a regular basis so any important material can be saved (exported) to their KSC computers and then imported into their current Bb course listings.

How to: save and import course materials

Course ID
Information on when a Bb course was created (Course ID) is located in the Courses tab. A Course ID looks like this: ENG-101-01-FA03. The last 4 alphanumeric characters of the Course ID (FA03 from the example) signify the semester; where FA stands for fall semester and 03 stands for the year 2003.

Semester abbreviations:
  • FA = Fall semester
  • SP = Spring semester
  • S1 = Summer session I
  • S2 = Summer session II
  • SF = Full Summer session

Special Courses
Special Bb courses, such as committees, are not scheduled for deletion. The Course ID should keep special courses from being deleted, however some of the older special courses may have Course IDs similar to regular Blackboard courses and they could get deleted accidentally. Check the Course ID of special courses to ensure that it does not follow the semester/year code. If a Special Course ID ends with a semester/year (FA03, SP02, S102, etc.), please contact a Bb System Administrator immediately to avoid any unnecessary deletions.

Window of Opportunity
A Bb System Administrator can recover a deleted course up to a month after the course was initially deleted. If a course is mistakenly deleted contact an administrator as soon as possible to begin the recovery process. After the first month we can no longer recover the courses and all content will be lost.
