IT Plan, Projects and Initiatives for FY2008

Information technology exists to help the College realize its mission - and values - related strategic goals through a portfolio of services, and the IT Group is accountable for responsible stewardship of a reliable and sustainable technology infrastructure.

Theme 1: Over the next three years, Keene State College will create a technology environment that is responsive to the college's service initiatives and mission-related goals:

Technology will further organizational integration and agility by developing coherence among technologies and the college's services.

Instructional technology will support programmatic effectiveness by providing services and resources for teaching and learning innovations.

Applying the theme of organizational agility and programmatic effectiveness to campus-wide systems, the following IT goals and initiatives emerged for FY2008:

Campus Safety Switchboard System Upgrade Replace existing system, software and hardware, that runs the campus switchboard. Current system is no longer supported. Consider upgrading IVR system in tandem. Project Sponsor: Corinne Kowpak Project Lead: Amanda Warman / Beth Williams
Datatel R18 Migration Complete SIS upgrade to Release 18. Release 18 is the delivery of a database independent Colleague system. Technical upgrade that will allow efficiencies in Datatel programming and increased development of the product. This is a vendor driven upgrade. Datatel User Interface (UI) Upgrade Implement Datatel UI interface and migrate away from character interface. Project Sponsor: SIS Directors Project Lead: Elizabeth Nieckoski

Alumni E-services Implement Alumni e-services including email for life forwarding and community portal. Project Sponsor: Melinda Mosier/Jeff LeValley Project Lead: Beth Martin
Enhanced Student e-Learning Support Provide students with the services and support necessary to use e-learning effectively. Delivery of services will come from HelpDesk, Rhodes Public Lab, etc.. e-Portfolio Planning Creation of a team responsible for providing leadership for the integration of e-portfolio curricular and co-curricular at KSC. Implementation of an e-portfolio system through a phased approach. Project Sponsor: Irene Herold Project Lead: Sue Castriotta / Jenny Darrow
CACE - Center for Academic & Community Engagement Creation of a support structure whereby there would be support for faculty to teach and students to learn. Components might include sponsored research, service learning coordination and instructional technology support. Campus Utilities & Maintenance Information System Upgrades To secure a replacement for DataStream's MP2, which currently tracks Physical Plant's Work Orders, Central Stores Inventory, and On-Campus Office Supply Orders. To identify, evaluate, and purchase replacement of Faser (software package used to track energ/utilities use and expenses for the campus. Campus Data Reporting Study Research and recommend common reporting tool for campus. Review reporting alternatives (with particular focus on, but not limited to) other Datatel schools which work seamlessly with Datatel and Banner. Project Sponsor: Jay Kahn Project Lead: TBD

Theme 2: As the college's central technology organization, the IT Group will: increase attention to manageability, speed, reliability, and security; improve training and support services; improve the tools & infrastructure; and sharpen customer service.

Software Licensing Management for KSC Computers Research and recommend a software metering tool that will improve efficiency and compliance with campus wide and specialized lab software licensing. Metering tools provide protection against the introduction of pirated software while allowing system administrators to control software usage and enforce licensing policies. Campus Paper Reduction Study Research and recommend ways to reduce waste of resources and costs regarding paper. (i.e. double sided printing as default, decreased margins, etc..) Project Sponsor: Sustainability Council Project Lead: Mary Jensen
Campus File Storage/Backup Upgrade Phase 1) Research and implement short-term solution(s) to meet data storage and backup needs until January 2009. Communications Convergence Technologies such as voice, video, data, and power are now converging over the communications infrastructure. Data Center Disaster Recovery Plan Develop an IT disaster recovery plan for the data center that will restore server, applications, and communication services in the event of an emergency.
