There are over 3,600 clients (2,200 in the Residential Halls and over 1,400 clients in faculty offices, staff offices, computing labs, and classrooms) and over 40 servers with an overall user population of approximately 5,700. For the most part, desktop clients are running the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. The servers are a mix of hardware running Windows 2000, Unix, and Linux. Keene State College is predominantly a Microsoft campus in operating systems for server and desktop and for office productivity software.
The college replaces workstations in faculty/staff offices and specialized labs every four years. Also included within desktop services is campus licensing for the Microsoft Office suite for faculty, staff, and computing labs. We also deliver file storage to clients and providing reliable backup solutions for personal and server data. Our server services provides support for servers running applications sponsored by other departments, i.e. the Campus Maintenance system, Resource 25, and the Residential Life building access system. A new service currently in its project phase is instructional technology delivery - providing server services to faculty and students through lab computing and/or classroom technologies.
