History
The General Education Program Committee (GEPC) was constituted by the College Senate in March, 2003. Its first meeting was in April, 2003. Since that time, Committee members have gathered information from across the campus, have attended several national conferences on General Education, have read widely on the subjects of general education and liberal education, and have worked with a consultant from the American Association of Colleges and Universities. The Committee membership has changed several times and now consists of a large group of faculty representing different constituencies with members from both Academic and Student Affairs administration and student government. (see General Education Program Committee Composition for more information on the rationale behind the composition of the Committee)
Over the course of the 2005-2006 academic year, the Committee held several all campus forums and presented several documents for feedback. In May, 2005 the College Senate approved the General Education Program Principles and endorsed the Proposed Structure, including nine skill areas. In February, 2006 the GEPC presented its proposal for a revised General Education program to the campus. The Committee received feedback on that proposal and in late March brought forth a new proposal for an Integrative Studies Program. It was discussed and approved by the Senate on April 19, 2006. At that time, the Committee became known as the Integrated Studies Program Committee (ISPC).
