Faculty Development Pool Format
Application Process
All proposals are to be submitted electronically to Susan Ericson-West, Rhodes N112 (Office of Sponsored Projects & Research) by 4:00 pm on October 13, 2008, November 24, 2008 or February 16, 2009. Proposals are to be approximately five pages in length. In addition, a budget page and a budget explanation are required; these must be limited to two pages.
Application Format
Proposals will include:
- Cover Page with Project Title, Proposer(s), and Project Abstract - 80 words or less
- Narrative
- Description of the Proposed Project
- Explanation of the Relationship to Faculty Member's Professional Role and Development
- Projected use and/or dissemination of the results of the project
- Potential for continuation
- Project timeline
- Itemized budget with explanations, including documentation of the accuracy and appropriateness of the cited expenses

Collaborative proposals should be submitted in a single application. Separate explanations of the project's impact on the faculty member (Item II b.) should be attached for each collaborating faculty member. Collaborative proposals must designate a budget manager.
Proposal Rating
Each proposal is read by members of the committee regarding the following categories:
- Appropriateness of the project for the faculty member and the potential for contribution to the professional development of the faculty member.
- Relevance to the faculty member's discipline and/or teaching responsibilities.
- Clarity of the proposal (including following the format)
- Potential for continuation of the project (e.g. lasting impact, further research, subsequent projects that build on this one, potential for pursuit of external funding, etc.).
- Potential for successful and timely completion of the project and a pan for use and/or dissemination of the results.
- Accuracy, appropriateness and documentation of the budget (including an explanation of the sources of other funds that will be used to support the project).
At the discretion of the committee, partial funding may be awarded. The committee will not award partial funding if, based on the evidence presented, the project cannot be satisfactorily completed without full funding.
Funding Information
Applicants who have been awarded funds will be notified within 2-3 weeks of the application deadline. Award recipients will have access to their funds within one week of the date of award, with instructions for accessing those funds.
All grant expenditures should be made within one year of award. If further time is necessary, a letter requesting an extension must be sent to the Office of Sponsored Projects & Research.
