Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grants

Purpose
This program is designed to provide financial support for research and other creative projects conducted by students mentored by a faculty member. The goals are to enable students to conduct active research as a means of developing their critical and creative thinking and communication skills. Grant proposals must be prepared and submitted by the student and approved by the participating faculty member.

2008-2009 Available Funds
$10,000

Range of Awards
$50 to $750. The committee will not consider individual requests over $750.

Proposal Deadlines
Submit all proposal materials electronically to Susan Ericson-West. Sponsoring faculty must send an email directly to Susan Ericson-West confirming sponsorship.

Proposals must be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on the following dates:
  • October 6, 2008
  • December 1, 2008
  • February 9, 2009
  • April 13, 2009
Project Period
Varies. Normally 1 to 2 semesters.

The Undergraduate Research Committee will review all proposals and make recommendations for funding. Students submitting proposals may be called for an interview with one or more members of the review committee.

Allowable/Disallowed Costs
Allowable costs are limited to research/project expenses, including supplies, copying, shipping costs, and travel. Travel requests must be directly related to the proposed project or production and necessary for its completion. Requests for conference travel should be directed to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Office. Students who are funded in one funding cycle may submit a proposal in a subsequent funding cycle to support the presentation of their results. Travel funds support student travel only. Equipment needs will normally not be funded but may be considered if affordable and critical to the project. Stipends and salary will not be funded.

Dissemination and Accountability
Students receiving undergraduate research or creative project grants will present at the Academic Excellence Conference in the spring of each year.
