DESCRIPTION:"Dracula" by Bram Stoker\, adapted for the stage by Steven Die
tz\, directed by Daniel Patterson\, runs Wednesday to Saturday\, Nov. 14-1
7 at 7:30 p.m. in Redfern's Main Theatre. \n\nThis new stage adaptation re
stores the non-stop\, heart pounding suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker
's classic novel. As Count Dracula begins to exert his plan to find a new
feeding ground in the teeming masses of industrial-age London\, the heroes
of the play\, led by the indomitable Professor Van Helsing\, try to piece
together the clues of his appearances in a valiant attempt to save themse
lves from a fate far worse than death. Rich with both humor and horror\, t
his play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker's famous vampire.
Warning: due to the disturbing and often graphic nature of the action\, th
is play is not recommended for children.

DESCRIPTION:"Niicugni\," Yup'ik for "Listen\," is a new dance performance
by Alaskan-born Emily Johnson housed within a sound/light installation of
hand-made fish lanterns. Making things from fish skin is an Alaskan art fo
rm. This dance\, the second in a trilogy of pieces related to Johnson's Yu
p'ik heritage\, explores issues around displacement of native peoples and
the ways in which cultures are divided and linked. Dance Magazine calls he
r work "simultaneously vulnerable and commanding\, mythical and wry."\n\nT
his performance is co-presented with the Vermont Performance Lab and is fu
nded in part by the New England Foundation for the Arts.
