DESCRIPTION:The Keene State College Guitar Orchestra and Keene State Colle
 ge Latin American Ensemble will present this concert. Both groups are dire
 cted by Dr. Jose Lezcano\, Professor of Music. \n\nThe program\, entitled\
 , "Panpipes\, Praetorius\, and Poulenc: Enhancing Global Awareness" will f
 eature the 14-member Guitar Orchestra performing works by the aforemention
 ed German composer Michael Praetorius (Renaissance Dances from his collect
 ion\, "Terpsichore")\, François Poulenc (Suite Français)\, Gaspar Sanz (
 Suite Española)\, Mozart (Minuet K. 229)\, Vivaldi´s Double Concerto in 
 D minor for viola d'amore\, guitar\, and strings\, and ¨Speak to Me\,¨a 
 traditional Greek Dance. The 15-member Latin American Music ensemble will 
 play numerous dances for panpipes\, flutes\, charangos\, and guitars\, fro
 m Ecuador and Bolivia\, including "Sanjuanito de Jatun Ñan\," a folk tune
  collected by Dr. Lezcano during his fieldwork in Ecuador. Joining the ens
 emble will be members of the KSC flute choir. Appearing as soloists with b
 oth groups will be the renowned Alturas Duo\, comprising Carlos Boltes and
  Scott Hill. Carlos is a virtuoso of the 10-string Andean charango (small 
 guitar) and a concert violist\; Scott is a guitarist from Thunder Bay\, On
 tario who has mastered the rhythms and techniques of Latin American guitar
 . Hailed by the Washington Post for "marvelous virtuosity\," the Duo has p
 erformed in Brazil\, Canada\, Chile\, Bolivia\, Ecuador and throughout the
  US and Puerto Rico including recitals at: Carnegie Hall\, Merkin Hall\, t
 he Smithsonian Institute\, the Music Mountain Chamber Music Series\, La Gu
 itarra California\, and the 34th International Viola Congress. Their appea
 rance is made possible by a PEPSI grant and the KSC Music Department. \n\n
 Student admission to the concert is free. Alturas will also offer a concer
 t / lecture on Nov. 13\, Tuesday\, at 11 a.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall o
 f the Redfern Arts Center.

DESCRIPTION:The KSC Percussion Ensemble spans the globe: Ghana\, New York 
 City\, Trinidad/Tobago\, Hawaii\, Japan\, and Londonderry\, NH. From Afric
 an influence comes Steve Reich’s Music for Pieces of Wood\, a work of mi
 nimalism based on Reich’s study in Ghana. The New York School is represe
 nted by John Cage’s Credo in US\, which will feature Professor Maura Gle
 nnon on piano. An Old Time Pan Medley will represent Trinidad and Tobago a
 nd the origins of the steel drum.\n\nHawaiian Chant is the basis for Chris
 topher Rouse’s Ku-Ka-Ilimoku (the Hawaiian God of War). Minoru Miki’s 
 Z Conversion is inspired by his hometown of Tokushima\, Japan (home to the
  Zomeki rhythm used in the Awa dance). Londonderry\, New Hampshire is also
  on the tour with the premier of Josh Brennan’s Pursuit. Join the KSC Pe
 rcussion Ensemble and directors\, Christopher Swist and Murray Mast for a 
 trip to 6 distinct locales in 6 distinct musical styles.\n

 concert lecture panel will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by a performance at
  3:00 p.m. in Redfern Art Center’s Alumni Recital Hall. The Chamber Sing
 ers are conducted by Dr. Sandra Howard and are joined by collaborative pia
 nist Cheryl Sharrock.\n\nDuring the Fall 2012 semester\, the Chamber Singe
 rs are partnering with the Monadnock Conservancy to learn about its missio
 n\, volunteer on conservation land\, and prepare concert repertoire center
 ed on the themes of conservation and preservation. The concert will featur
 e a world premiere performance of Max Vladimiroff’s “Let Them Be Left
 ”\, the winning selection from the 2012 KSC Call for Scores. The pre-con
 cert lecture panel will be moderated by Dr. Heather Gilligan who will be j
 oined by the Monadnock Conservancy’s Executive Director\, Ryan Owens and

 liant concerti by Alessandro Marcello and Henri Tomasi\, Bohuslav Martinu'
 s witty “Sonatina”\, “Paths”\, an ethereal work for  trumpet alone
  by Toru Takamitsu\, and Edvard Grieg's mystical and heartfelt song cycle 
 “Haugtussa”.\n\nRecently appointed to the faculties of both Keene Stat
 e College and Plymouth State University\, Boston-based freelance trumpeter
  Fred Sienkiewicz enjoys a varied career performing solo\, chamber\, and o
 rchestral music throughout New England. He has performed with the Nashua S
 ymphony\, Vermont Symphony\, Cape Cod Symphony\, North Country Chamber Pla
 yers\, Bala Brass\, Majestic Brass\, and Epic Brass. Mr. Sienkiewicz has a
 lso given recital performances at King's Chapel in Boston\, Philips Recita
 l Hall at Gordon College\, and St. John the Evangelist in Hingham\, MA\, a
