Vision: The programs of Keene State College are governed by the principles of equal opportunity, just treatment, and respect for all people. Mission: To actively promote a campus environment in which differences between people are recognized, understood, and accepted in all areas of community life. To address issues and concerns related to the multiple dimensions of diversity including but not limited to age, class, culture, differing physical and learning abilities, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation. To serve as an advocate and catalyst for continuing learning and advancement in the treatment of diversity across the campus so that students are prepared for active participation in an increasingly diverse world. Strategic Goals:
Note: This statement was approved by the Commission on March 1, 2000. The College's Mission and Values statement includes diversity. The second of the Values and the first and second of the associated Responsibilities are related to the Diversity Commission's mission. President Yarosewick strengthened the College's commitment to its diversity goals in a portion of his welcome speech to the staff and faculty on August 18, 2003. The description here is quoted from the August 20, 2003, issue of Campus News: Progress will also be made in the area of diversity on campus. Efforts by the Admissions Office have already increased the number of applications from minorities to KSC by 40 percent. To move the diversity agenda forward, Dr. Y announced the creation of task forces to examine how to build the number of applications for employment at Keene State by qualified minorities. The College will also adopt a policy on discrimination and discriminatory harassment. Finally, the structure of the Commission on Diversity and Multiculturalism will be formalized to ensure full campus involvement in this organization. |
