Traviss
Assistant Professor
Expertise:
Biodiesel fuel, biodiesel exhaust exposure assessment, chemical risk management, environmental and occupational health, community based participatory research, process safety management. Dr. Traviss' research and scholarship focuses on an examination of the impact of biodiesel fuel on occupational and environmental exposures. She works with members of the community and Keene State College undergraduate students from multiple disciplines to collect data on the impact of biodiesel fuel on workplace and near field air quality, as well as local sustainability initiatives. She is part of the Monadnock Biodiesel Collaborative team, a "first in the nation" community model to recycle waste grease into biodiesel for local use and benefit. Before coming to Keene State College, Dr. Traviss worked in the chemical process industries as an engineer and Environmental Health Safety Manager for over 12 years, and brings a strong background of hazardous materials and chemical risk management to the classroom. She is committed to policy efforts that are sensitive to integrating both protection of the environment and protection of worker health. Her current research, supported by a recent National Institute of Health grant, focuses on Biodiesel and Petroleum Diesel Exposure Profiles and Public Health Consequences.
