Measuring Fair Trade (IQL-101)
Section Description: Measuring Fair Trade is a dynamic, creative, interactive course which explores Fair Trade, economics, consumerism, sustainability, and activism using math and social research. We delve into who we are, our cultural assumptions, ethics, and influence. We also learn to understand and harness the transformative power of numbers and data. Service Learning: Students work on an ongoing national consumer study developed with FairTradeUSA's, Fair Trade Towns. Fair Trade is a form of commerce supported by American and European institutions as a way to promote cultural and environmental sustainability and bring greater economic return to marginalized producers. It has rapidly grown into a multi-billion-dollar industry.
