Love & Marr. in Middle Ages (IHHIST-199)
Love and Marriage in the Middle Ages This class defines and examines the institutions of marriage and family (including the monastic familia) in medieval Europe. By studying the development of the family, including institutions like monasteries that replaced familial ties based in kinship, this course aims to offer an examination of the roles of both men and women in the development of the medieval European culture and civilization without forcing the study of either gender into paradigms that are unnatural to particular historical periods.
