ST: The Medieval World (HIST-290)
Medieval World This class is intended as an introductory survey of medieval Europe. During the thousand-year period that historians have labeled the Middle Ages, Europe developed a civilization that was a synthesis of its classical heritage, Christianity, and the tribal cultures that replaced the Roman Empire. In this course we will examine the formation and flowering of medieval European society and culture, with a particular focus on the conversation between medieval and classical authors and of the relationship of the individual to medieval governmental and religious institutions.
