20th Century Black Voices (IHHIST-199)

"20th Century Black Voices in Text and Context": This course will focus on the voices of twentieth century African-Americans in their written words and from videos. We will study Black leaders, the Jim Crow era, the fight against segregation, the Civil Rights movement and the progress that has been made, as well as its limits. Videos will be used extensively to get a feel for the topic. All tests will be in the essay format and, like all my classes, will include questions from the readings that were not covered in class.
