Building and Construction

The primary goal of this program is to provide the construction industry personnel of the Monadnock Region with the contemporary educational opportunities necessary for them to function effectively with ever-changing technology. Students may use this program simply as a source of job enhancement or apply credits earned through the program toward other degrees offered at KSC.

In addition, individuals planning to enter construction careers will find that the program offers the knowledge and skills necessary for the field. Course offerings are numerous and varied to allow students to meet their individual interests and needs.Twenty-four credits of coursework and a grade point average of 2.0 are required for completion of the certificate. Courses taken are part of the KSC Technology, Design and Safety program.

Drafting and Design Technology

Students working toward the Drafting and Design Technology Certificate will develop skills in both traditional and computer-aided drafting techniques so that they will be capable of performing adequately in both situations, depending on the demands of their careers. This range of skills insures maximum flexibility in a job market where, in some cases, traditional techniques are still dominant, and in others, more high-tech computer-aided drafting prevails. To provide for varied interests, students are free to choose an emphasis in mechanical or architectural drafting.

Twenty-four credits of coursework and a grade point average of 2.0 are required for completion of the certificate. Courses taken are part of the KSC Technology, Design, and Safety program.

Geographic Information Systems

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology is used in an enormous range of applications where there is geographic data to be stored, queried, analyzed and displayed. With GIS, people can create maps quickly and inexpensively, link statistical analyses with mapping, and experiment with graphic representations of data. GIS is a powerful tool in the decision-making process, because it links data such as addresses, zip codes, and watersheds.

The GIS certificate program, designed to be completed in one year, is ideal for students who wish to focus their skills and professionals in environmental resource management, urban and regional planning, local government, facilities management, and other areas. The certificate indicates that you have an understanding of general GIS theory; knowledge and practical exposure to the hardware and software used in GIS; and the ability to plan and construct spatial databases, perform GIS analyses, and represent data in maps and tables.

For more information, please contact Chris Cusack, Coordinator of the program. You can reach him at by phone at 603.358.2513 or by email.

This credit program has been specifically designed and developed in conjunction with the IBM Partners in Education Program to serve the career needs of learners in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire by providing a comprehensive iSeries technology curriculum that meets the growing demands of both the local and national marketplace. The program is not a major or an option in any of the degree programs offered by the Computer Science Department; however, all courses successfully completed will transfer into these programs for matriculated students. The certificate tells employers that you have completed specific courses and achieved a certain level of excellence in midrange computer systems and development.
