Campus Status Report update
Monday, May 4, 8:30 a.m.

Over the weekend one case of H1N1 virus was confirmed in New Hampshire. There are no suspected or confirmed cases on campus or in the Keene community at this time. We continue to monitor the situation and will post additional updates here.

Christine Burke, director of Health and Wellness, is coordinating Keene State's medical response to the H1N1 virus. The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, contacts her daily, and she is recommending the College's response with action taken by the cabinet and president.

Campus Status Report
Although there are no confirmed cases of H1N1 virus on campus or in the Keene community at this time, we are carefully monitoring the situation. As of this afternoon, there are two probable cases of swine flu in New Hampshire, and both of those cases are in the Concord area.

Campus Events
There are no cancelled events or classes at this time. All upcoming College events are being evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Any cancellations will be posted on the KSC homepage.

What Keene State is doing
The College has a pandemic plan in place that covers all areas of campus activity. Because this is a constantly developing situation worldwide, the Medical Crisis Response Team has been meeting as needed to review the status of the spread of the virus.

To limit the possible spread of the virus we have implemented the following precautionary measures:

• Use of hand sanitizers are strongly encouraged. Hand sanitizers are located in dorms, bathrooms, and the dining hall. Antibacterial soap will be placed in existing hand cleaning dispensers.
• To limit the possible spread of the virus, self service stations at the Dining Commons will be replaced with plated portions.
• The UNICCO staff is using antiviral cleaners and giving extra care to door handles, windows, counters, etc. while cleaning campus buildings.

Communications to Campus
This is a developing situation, and we are committed to providing information and news updates as needed. These updates will be posted on the homepage and the Health and Wellness website, and we will send emails out to students, faculty, and staff to alert them to new postings.

Emergency Communications
If it is determined that there is a need for immediate notification of the campus community contact will be made through email, web postings, and the CityWatch Emergency Notification System. If you have not yet registered for CityWatch you may do so anytime online.

We remind you to follow these precautions

• Cover your sneezes and coughs with a tissue or your elbow.
• Dispose of soiled tissue in the trash after use
• Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash them frequently with soap and water.
• Alcohol based hand sanitizers are a good alternative if soap and water is not available.
• Call the Center for Health and Wellness, your personal care physican, or the Swine Flu Public Information Hotline (888 330 6764) if you develop the following symptoms
1. Temperature of 100 degrees or greater and,
2. Cough
3. Sore Throat
4. Headache
5. Body aches or chills
